What Ranger adds

Ranger uses a crossbow and animal companions. Her kit can improve all survivors’ Critical and Luck stats and includes ways to heal allies, making her stronger in a developed team than as an isolated damage pick.

Fastest practical route

Clear new modes and difficulties instead of repeating only the easiest arena. Invest Camp upgrades between runs, complete missions for Friendship gains, and use the strongest available squad until level 175.

Ranger ability loop

Mark targets with the crossbow or Animal Whistle, then let the dog and falcon attack marked enemies for better range and damage. Incense creates a team area that can improve Critical chance and branch into healing or status support.

First levels after unlocking her

Take one level in Dog and Falcon so both companions begin attacking, then invest in the crossbow until it fires enough bolts to mark a lane. Early Ranger clears groups through penetration and companion area damage; she feels weak when the pets are unlocked but enemies are not being marked often enough.

Choose the crossbow for the team

  • Shock Spike for long-range marks and Electric coverage
  • Barber for a wide close-range cone and group marking
  • Repeater Crossbow for more marks and companion uptime
  • Flarebolt after its tree unlock for penetrating Burning bolts

Dog evolutions solve different problems

Doberman stays on a high-priority elite or boss until the target dies. Retriever collects timed power-ups, Military Training points, and Cash while refreshing both animal cooldowns; it does not replace every manual pickup. Choose Doberman when bosses survive too long and Retriever when map pressure makes optional pickups unsafe.

Falcon can deal damage or add sustain

Assault turns one strike into three attacks and fits a damage route. Guardian retaliates when you are hit, dodge, or parry, and can restore at least 5 HP when it hits a marked target. The heal needs steady mark uptime and repeated Falcon attacks, so do not treat it as an emergency full heal.

Whistle and Incense define the support build

Whistle can give 100 armor for 5 seconds, trigger from defensive actions, and prioritize elite or boss stuns. Incense pulses stack team Critical chance; one evolution restores at least 20 HP per pulse and adds Luck, while another changes the pulses into Fear and Mark application. Pick sustain for Endurance and control when the squad already has healing.

Best partners and positioning

Huntress benefits from marked targets and adds ranged lane coverage. Mechanic can overclock pets and Incense through Transmitter. Stay close enough to refresh Incense stacks, then leave the circle before a hazard closes around it; the Critical bonus decays over time instead of disappearing immediately.

Set expectations for an unfinished Ranger

Ranger can contribute before reaching the same rank as an established carry, but her results vary sharply with unlocked evolutions, mark coverage, and weapon investment. Finish the weapon and support nodes before using one damage screen as a tier verdict. Her rank-five nodes add marked-target weapon scaling and a team Luck bonus.
